Flexible, cost-efficient design using JV3 compliance

Section J of the Building Code of Australia requires all non-residential buildings to meet acceptable levels of energy efficiency and environmental performance.

Using a JV3 report allows flexibility in design and can reduce your building cost, as we’ll compare your building to a reference to show it meets environmental targets.

A results-focused JV3 approach

Step 1

Design onboarding

You integrate us into the scope of your project and we prepare a detailed plan for Section J and JV3 based on the building specifications.

Step 2

Preliminary energy rating

We complete a thermal model of your design, using ANSI/ASHAE 140 verified software.

Step 3

Data -driven solutions

We use data to review your pathways to compliance and provide you with tailored  solutions.

Step 4

Expert guidance

We guide your team through the complexities of Section J and JV3 compliance, while you ensure your project remains on track.

Results-driven commercial energy efficiency

Questions?

Section J covers the energy efficiency requirements for all non-residential buildings. It covers a building’s thermal performance, lighting, hot water and heating, cooling and ventilation recovery (HVAC).

At Powerhaus we generally use the JV3 method of compliance, which is a verification pathway using a reference building. Using this method allows for design flexibility and can reduce your building cost.

If you need a JV3 report for your commercial or community building, meeting the requirements as early as possible in your plans will avoid costly revisions and wasted time down the track. Request a quote to get started with your Section J BCA compliance or contact us to discuss your needs.

Section J of the Building Code of Australia requires all non-residential buildings to meet acceptable levels of energy efficiency and environmental performance.

We recommend using a JV3 report to allow for flexibility in design and reduction of your building costs as your building is compared to a DtS (Deemed to Satisfy) reference, taking location of the proposed building and weather data into consideration, to show it meets environmental targets

In the JV3 process, we complete a thermal model based on your building plans and detailed specifications, using ANSI/ASHAE 140 verified software.

Using data and our team of experts, we outline tailored pathways to compliance, based on a reference DtS building. Once we’ve found the ideal solution for your building, we’ll provide your final JV3 report.

That’s what we’re here for. We’ll identify all the options available to you to increase your commercial energy rating and reach Section J compliance, or your desired level of performance.

Not to worry – one round of changes is built into our quote. Further changes and updates are prioritised to help you get your approvals finalised.

We’re experts in Section J compliance and commercial energy efficiency because we don’t just tick boxes.

– We become part of your design team, and coordinate with mechanics, designers and certifiers.
– We are results-focused, and deliver tailored pathways to your project.
– We’re engineers and scientists who understand buildings, systems and legislation.
